ChallengeHow do we connect all research that is carried out in Edinburgh?
Challenge CategoryLearning Spaces and Pedagogies
Solution descriptionInter-Portal is a web portal that connects Early Career Researchers interested to engage with other researchers with similar research interests across the University of Edinburgh, both within and outside their own schools using official academic profiles from the university’s webpages.
The portal will gather data from interested users (e.g. name, email, etc.) and then run it through internal University of Edinburgh database and external academic profiles (e.g. Academia.edu, ResearchGate, etc.) with the aim to gather information about research interests, location and contact details publicly available online. Once the information is gathered, the user can curate his/her profile and add missing information. The collected information will be stored in the portal and will be then used to look for people with similar research interests from the university’s websites.
The solution aims to enhance collaboration within the university as a way to increase research projects and to create a network within the Early Career Researchers community, which can be extended beyond its time in the University of Edinburgh.
The solution is based on University of Edinburgh but it can be easily applied to other communities or universities facing similar challenges.
