How can we pool our knowledge to better know the Ocean and explore the deep-seabed for the common use?

The Ocean is rich in resources that are not limited to the fishery and its biodiversity but include more valuable resources like seabed minerals and metals that are fundamental for the green economy, or genetic resources with great potential for biotech applications.Nevertheless, it is estimated that only about 5 percent of the Ocean has been explored and mapped by mankind.

Ocean Data is often gathered in very fragmented projects, whether it be data from dedicated scientific expeditions or data from commercial shipping operations.  How can all this data be unified and presented in a clear way that is accessible to all?

The upcoming  UN Decade of Ocean Science will be a key framework for mapping the ocean and collecting data for a more sustainable and healthy ocean. Learn more at Global Goals, Ocean Opportunities.
