8 million metric tons of plastic enter the ocean every year and it is expected to increase tenfold in the next decade. Additionally, chemicals and nutrients running off agriculture, and poor wastewater management from cities worldwide continue to be a major source of ocean pollution.

The harm of plastic pollution must be mitigated with responsible consumption and improved waste management. Waste management is neither costly nor technically difficult. Frontier technologies can also be used to find solutions to end waste entering the ocean, thus contributing to keeping our ocean clean, healthy and productive.
