The High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) is a conference where United Nations Member States, UN entities and other major stakeholders discuss and work towards the realization of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) defined in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The HLPF is the central UN platform for the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda.

We invite individuals and teams to develop a mobile app for this event. This app should help participants to navigate through the hundreds of official, special and side events, as well as the dozens of exhibitions that take place during the 11 days of the HLPF 2018 that will be held in the UN Headquarters of New York, USA from 9 to 18 July 2018. The app should also be re-usable for the next sessions of the HLPF, which happen every year.

Leading developers will be recognized during the Science Technology & Innovation Forum for the SDGs at the United Nations, New York, USA, June 5-6 June and during the HLPF 2018.

    The Challenge
We challenge you to play a role creating this app by joining or forming an open source collaboration project. We are looking for:

    Challenge Phases & Timeline
Throughout all phases below, teams are encouraged to interact with the core team at the challenger organizations to discuss the requirements for this project.

    1. Formation of Teams (self-organized online and offline). Using the Unite Ideas website, project leaders can submit their ideas for architectures and approach while volunteers list their skills and offer to join their team(s) of choice. You don’t have to be in a team, you can also work independently. 1 month (End: Feb 28, 2018)

    2. Individuals and self-organized team(s) collaborate independently to implement their solution. 2.5 month. End: May 6, 2018 last day to submit your working app.

    3. Review phase. End: June 3, 2018.

    Expected Outcomes
By the end of this challenge, we will have one or more self-organized teams developing versions of this app. This or these teams will continue to collaborate in an open source manner towards the full completion, testing and rollout of the app.

    Open Source
All the inputs and outputs of this project must be covered by recognized open source and creative commons licensing. You will be asked to accept terms and conditions prior to submitting any content.
It is encouraged that teams leverage and extend existing open source frameworks.
